Questions and Answers
Barstow Bareback Glove-Steer Hide
This glove is made of heavy steer hide. The firm leather palm takes benzoin and rosin very well.
Q:
Hello. I bought two of your steer hide gloves - one on back order. I like this glove but even the largest size 10.5 is still tight in the palm . Can you offer any solutions to stretch it? Is there an oil or conditioner that you could recommend that might help with this? Can you tell me if the elk hide version is less tighter fitting. I am using this for falconry to handle birds of prey. I like the thickness and puncture resistance of the steer hide and wonder wether or not the elk might be a workable option. I have many falconer friends that I know will be interested in these gloves.

A:
So first off, you could probably get the glove to stretch some by applying alcohol to the glove and then running your hand in the glove and working it. I would apply alcohol all over the glove so that it will hopefully stretch all over.
Secondly, the elk glove isn’t quite as thick, but much thicker than deer skin. The elk is much softer than the steer. I think either option will work for him.
